Fish Fry

On Saturday night of the Alabama trip, Dad's church celebrated Pastor Appreciation by having a fish fry. There's nothing quite as good in my book as a good fish fry. I love them. Always have and always will. Fried catfish and bass, along with french fries, cole slaw (made by Sis. Doris or Jordan's fish camp), and a thick slice of onion, and hush puppies....hungry yet??? Now that's a southern tradition worth writing about......that's why I'm doing just that!

So, it was a great occasion. The ladies all behind the counter either gutting fish, battering them, and stirring up hushpuppies. What a lovely scene. And then all the guys pile outside under a small little porch with hot grease every way you turn......telling all kinds of stories and reminiscing. Life just doesn't get much better than that!

Are you wanting to have a fish fry, yet?? I tell you what....how 'bout I just show you some pictures and you just wish you were there eating up the scrumptious fish and fries! You can click on any of the small pictures around this post and they will become larger.

Uncle Jerry, when you get brave enough to cross the Mason Dixon line again and come back to Georgia, I promise you a southern fish fry at my house. I think this would be something that you would love. We have the cookers and all. Deal??

Actually, we used to live in a little hole in the road town called Colquitt, GA. The tradition there and everywhere in south Georgia is to have cheese grits with catfish. Jeremy and I usually do grilled talapia (fish) with cheese grits.

Did someone recently mention a diet? At least I got to enjoy this before the diet started!

On the picture of Anita and Laura, don't be fooled by the child they each hold . . . they've switched and holding a niece. Anita has Abby and Laura has Addy. (And they wonder why I can't keep names straight!) Abby weighs as much as Addy - even though Addy is 17 months older. They had a good time playing together. It was so funny one day in the kitchen. Anita and I were sitting at the bar and we put both girls ON the bar in front of us and were not paying attention to them. Abby (17 months old) put her arm behind Addy and just started scooting her off toward the edge of the bar. Thankfully, we caught her before she went off. Put her back on and Abby, effortlessly, just sent her scooting again. It was hilarious.

Forgot to comment on the fish fry . . . it was great. The fish was delicious as was everything else. The effort was much appreciated! We have a great group of people. Can't beat solid country folk. Strange at times but wonderful people. We've pastored some of these since 1980 (with a 5-year absence from 92-97). Can't believe we've been back here for almost 13 years.

Whew, if those pictures of myself are not motivation to diet, then I'm not sure what is. Anita, feel free to take them off :-) We have such photogenic husbands, huh? We so enjoyed being with you guys. Love ya.

I loved how the kids were "mixed" and not w/the parent! Can smell the fish a-frying somewhere! Talked to Jerry Tuesday and he asked me to send him info to get to the blog again. He had a made a comment and "lost" it, so I wrote clear instructions to follow thru to post, so hopefully we'll hear pearls from him soon!

Hopefully we can get him south soon, 'cause I'm tagging along. May make some coleslaw tonight to hold me till then!

I love you guys and your warm welcome to your lives.
